For safety sakes, it’s time for car and truck manufacturers to acknowledge the public’s need for skitching safety and go back to building cars with bumpers that you can hang on to. This way they don’t have to hang on to the door handle or an open window. That’s dangerous.

The Athens Human Rights Festival brings together political activists, musicians
and artists in a call for action on human rights issues as well as a celebration
of advances in the area of human rights.

Two teenagers killed Saturday night in a fiery crash on the Athens Perimeter were Cedar Shoals High School students, authorities confirmed Sunday. Robert Burgdoff and Kenneth Davis, both 16, died in the wreck, while a 15-year-old was injured. All three were enrolled at Cedar Shoals High School, according to the Athens post of the Georgia State Patrol.

“He’s my dad, but he’s more like a 50 year old homey. He’s the first one to bust out the sack of weed. He’s the first one with a beer in his hand. He’s like a skater, he just doesn’t know how to skate.”

Regular viewers of Skitching Dotcom will recognize Randy as the guitarist for the renown Athens band Pylon.

Along with his brother Chris Bewley, Randy was an avid Georgia skateboarder during the 1970’s.  His son Adam continues the family tradition of skateboarding.

While driving down Barber Street Monday evening Randy apparently suffered a heart attack and ran off the road.

This afternoon, Randy died.

He will be missed.

Athens-Clarke police sent two men to the pokey Sunday night after a neighbor saw them haul off three metal posts from a bench where children sat to wait for the bus to take them home from Whitehead Road Elementary School. The witness saw the men put the metal posts, valued at $50 each, in a car and take off from the school, 500 Whitehead Road, between 10:15 and 11:10 p.m. They left behind the wooden seat, police said. An officer found the car nearby and arrested Jeffery George Benson, 24, of Benfrew Drive, and Vinson Jamal Goldwire, 20, of West Broad Street, on charges of theft by taking, interference with government property and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
